📋 Back Treatment GuideUpdated a month ago

About back pain

Back pain can be debilitating, ranging from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain that may shoot down the leg. Sometimes it can come on suddenly – from an accident, a fall, or lifting something heavy, or it can develop slowly because of age-related degenerative changes in the spine.

Treatment options vary depending on the cause and symptoms, and often there are several contributing factors. We recommend speaking to a qualified health professional to help diagnose and treat any specific conditions.

Red light therapy can be a very effective treatment for many back issues; helping reduce inflammation, modulate pain signal transmission, and stimulate tissue repair and regeneration.

Back Treatment with the Move+

Primary treatment area

Everyone’s back pain is unique, and placement for where red light therapy will be most effective depends on your case. A general rule is to treat the local area that is experiencing pain, and in addition to treat areas that are likely to be linked to that pain.

Treatment Time

  • Treat the local areas indicated for 10-15 minutes daily (max twice per day).
  • Hold the power button for 2 seconds to switch between 5, 10, 15 minutes of therapy time.
  • Consistency is key. So doing a short treatment every day will be more effective than doing longer sessions more sporadically.

Treatment Expectations

On average, most people can expect to notice results within 2-3 weeks, depending on the issue being treated. Some people have noticeable relief of pain, even after just one session.

Treatment impacts

There are three primary impacts on the body:

Inflammation

Inflammation is a common cause of pain. Light therapy is a proven treatment to help significantly reduce inflammation, and therefore reduce symptoms of pain.

Pain Transmission

Light therapy reduces pain signal transmission in the nervous system through neurotransmitter modulation.

Tissue Health

Light therapy stimulates tissue repair and regeneration through an increase in cellular function and reduction in oxidative stress

Note: If your pain is not inflammation-based you will experience less pain reduction, however the reduction in inflammation can still help your tissue health long-term

Secondary Treatment area

The inflammation associated with joint arthritis can cause restricted blood flow in nearby tissues. Light therapy can increase blood flow to these areas to help improve tissue health.

Back pain is often linked to tight hips, so we recommend hip treatment, especially if you are not seeing results in 3-4 weeks with back treatment alone.

For treatment of tight hips associated with back pain, we recommend treating the upper gluteus maximus (this also will help with deeper hip muscles).

Place 3 modules over the upper glute as shown (directly on skin where possible). This is easiest to do while lying down.

Treatment time

Treat the areas indicated for 10-15 minutes daily

Treatment expectations

The regeneration and repair of blood vessels in the surrounding tissues will take around 6-8 weeks for substantial blood flow improvements.

Treatment impacts

Reduced Muscle Tension

Reducing tension in connected muscle chains can alleviate strain put on the back, thereby reducing back pain.

Improved Blood Flow

Improvements in blood flow will contribute to reduced inflammation, improved tissue health and faster healing.
