About Foot Pain
The foot is one of the most complex parts of the body. It is made up of 26 bones connected by many joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Due to our need to walk and put weight on our feet daily, this area of the body is susceptible to many stresses.
There are many types of foot problems that can affect the various structures, and are often related to improper footwear, improper loading/exercise progressions, and/or weakness in the lower extremities.
The most common causes include acute injuries, arthritis, and overuse injuries. Symptoms of foot pain may include swelling, redness, stiffness, difficulty walking, and decreased mobility.
Red light therapy can be a very effective treatment for many foot issues by helping reduce inflammation, modulate pain signal transmission, and stimulate tissue repair and regeneration.
Combining exercise with red light therapy can be extremely beneficial for optimal results.
Primary Treatment
To treat the soft tissue issues in the foot, you need to position the modules over the painful tissue. In the below example we have shown how this would be positioned for plantar fasciitis.
- Shorten the straps to the shortest length, and position modules over the painful area.
- Using a long sock is an easy way to hold the modules over this area.
Treatment Time
- Each area should be treated for 10–15 minutes per session, up to 2 times daily. For best results, combine red light therapy with gentle mobility and strengthening exercises tailored to your issue. Always listen to your body, and if in doubt, consult a healthcare professional for guidance.
- Consistency is key. Doing a short treatment every day will be more effective than doing longer sessions more sporadically.
Secondary Treatment
Treating the soft tissue up stream in the Achilles tendon and even further up your calf can help relieve foot pain, as the Achilles tendon also attaches to the plantar fascia of the foot.
Ankle treatment
Shorten the straps and clip around the calf, with 1-2 modules over the Achilles tendon.
Calf treatment
Shorten the straps and clip around the calf, with 1-2 modules over the Achilles tendon.
Treatment Expectations
On average, our customers see an 89% decrease in pain within 2-3 weeks. Some people have noticeable relief of pain, even after just one session!
One big impact on results is how much blood and tissue is around the area of pain and inflammation.
You can expect faster results on larger areas, like hips, knees and back. Smaller areas like hands and ankles, may require 3-4 weeks for noticeable pain reduction.
Treatment Benefits
Inflammation
Inflammation is a common cause of pain. Light therapy is a proven treatment to help significantly reduce inflammation.
Pain Transmission
Reduces pain signal transmission in the nervous system through neurotransmitter modulation.
Tissue Health
Stimulates tissue repair and regeneration through an increase in cellular function and reduction in oxidative stress
Blood Flow
Improvements in blood flow will contribute to reduced inflammation, healthy tissues and faster healing.
